For more than 15 years, CAAU and UCP/Wheels for Humanity worked in partnership to bring the gift of mobility to needy children and adults in Ukraine. This joint project completed ten deliveries of wheelchairs and other mobility aids to needy people in Lviv, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, Volynh, Uzhorod, Chernivtsi and Kharkiv.
In September 2017, a team of six volunteers, representing CAAU and our new partner Global Mobility, delivered a shipping container packed full with wheelchairs, therapy equipment and other supplies to needy people in Lviv and Kyiv. In addition to our regular assistance to children and adults, they were able to help soldiers at the Lviv Military hospital who were recovering from traumatic war related injuries.
The success of the Wheelchairs for Ukraine partnerships between CAAU and UCP/Wheels for Humanity and Global Mobility has been largely due to the countless hours of volunteer work spent refurbishing wheelchairs at the WFH & GM facilities in Southern California. It’s been supported physically and organizationally by CAAU and the recipient organizations in Ukraine. However, it’s the financial support from our donors that makes this program possible. CAAU’s next wheelchair distribution is in September 2019 in Lviv.
