On July 15, 2013, our dear friend and colleague, Bohdan Malaniak, passed away at home.
CAAU and our community were fortunate to have his “energizer bunny” enthusiasm, warmth and generosity for many years. Bohdan elevated the fundraising efforts of CAAU to new levels and dimensions, as well as championing and implementing many important projects to help people in Ukraine. He has served on the Board of Directors as President, Secretary, and Member of the Advisory Committee. In 2006, his wide-ranging accomplishments were recognized with the CAAU Humanitarian Award.
In lieu of flowers, his family has requested donations to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for the Malaniak Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Research, or to CAAU, for projects to provide for basic needs for needy children in Ukraine. Some current CAAU projects are:
- Children’s Hospital of the Future in Kyiv and other programs aimed at improving health care outcomes for critically ill children in Ukraine
- Wheelchairs for Ukraine, delivering mobility, dignity and independence to needy people with disabilities in Ukraine, enabling focus on special needs children
- Aid for children in orphanages/internats in Ukraine, including clothing and other personal care items, building repairs, school supplies and educational materials
Your generosity will help to preserve and expand the legacy of Bohdan Malaniak.
